“Slip disc” and sciatica describe back-related pain that can radiate into the leg. Many people improve with guided, conservative care. We assess your presentation and build a plan to help you move more comfortably.
A disc-related problem can irritate nearby structures and sometimes a nerve, which may cause pain, pins and needles or weakness extending into the leg (often called sciatica).
Why it may be considered
Assessment helps clarify whether your symptoms are consistent with nerve involvement, screen for features needing further review, and guide a graded plan.
Common reasons people seek assessment
These are reasons to seek a professional assessment — not a promise that a specific treatment will suit everyone.
Back pain radiating into the buttock or leg
Pins and needles or numbness in the leg or foot
Pain worsened by certain positions or activities
Difficulty with prolonged sitting or standing
How it generally works
Conservative care often includes graded exercise, manual therapy, education on positions and activity, and suitable modalities. Where appropriate and available, decompression-based approaches may be discussed. The focus is on reducing irritation and restoring tolerance to movement.
What an appointment may involve
1
Discussion of symptoms, leg involvement and history.
2
Assessment including relevant neurological screening.
3
A graded, personalised plan.
4
Treatment and regular review.
Precautions & when further assessment is needed
Seek urgent medical care for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or rapidly worsening leg weakness. These are uncommon but need immediate attention rather than routine treatment.
Most disc-related and sciatic symptoms improve with conservative care over time. Surgery is considered only in specific situations, which a specialist would assess. We do not promise to avoid surgery.
