Hands-on, assessment-based care for the spine and joints. Whether a chiropractic technique is appropriate for you is decided only after a careful assessment of your history and presentation.
Chiropractic and manual care involve hands-on techniques intended to support the movement and comfort of the spine and joints. These may be combined with exercise and advice as part of a broader plan.
Why it may be considered
Manual care may be considered for certain mechanical neck, back or joint complaints. It is one option among several, and is used only where assessment suggests it is suitable and safe for you.
Common reasons people seek assessment
These are reasons to seek a professional assessment — not a promise that a specific treatment will suit everyone.
Mechanical neck or back discomfort
Joint stiffness affecting movement
Postural strain
Seeking a hands-on approach alongside exercise
How it generally works
After assessment, suitable hands-on techniques may be applied to specific joints or regions, typically alongside exercise and self-management advice. Your clinician will explain what each technique involves and why it is being considered.
What an appointment may involve
1
A discussion of symptoms and relevant medical history.
2
An assessment of movement and the affected region.
3
A clear explanation of whether manual care is suitable, and the alternatives.
4
Treatment where appropriate, with guidance and follow-up.
Precautions & when further assessment is needed
Chiropractic care is not appropriate for everyone. Certain conditions (for example, some bone, nerve, circulatory or inflammatory conditions, or recent trauma) require medical review first, and some techniques may be avoided. We will discuss suitable alternatives where manual care is not advisable.
Suitability and safety depend on your individual assessment. Where a technique is not advisable, we recommend alternatives such as exercise-based rehabilitation.
